Save the Magic was born years ago when the universe brought together a group of friends who have since become family. What began as a game played by friends in Rock Creek Park, under a very special tree, became a cherished tradition. My children, along with their friends, would play Save the Magic for hours.
Now, if you were to ask what exactly Save the Magic is, I couldn’t give you a simple answer. But I can tell you what it means to me and why it’s the name of our homeschool collective. Save the Magic is about preserving childhood, protecting innocence, and nurturing wonder, imagination, and kindness. This is the heart of our collective.
Save the Magic is a secular drop-off homeschool enrichment program held twice a week with an optional community day. Our half-day program takes place at River Farm Children’s Nature Library and Reading Room and its beautiful surrounding grounds.
Rooted in the arts and inspired by nature, our program offers classes in art, movement, and nature-based studies. Instruction is led by a blend of local businesses, creative members of the community, and the founder—coming together to share their talents and passions with the children.
Thank you for visiting our website! My name is Amanda Kantner and I am the founder of Save the Magic Education Collective. In a nutshell, I'm a homeschooling mom, prior teacher, wife and mother of two. Please read on to learn a bit about my educational and professional background.
I began my academic journey in psychology. As an undergrad, I was most drawn to courses focused on children and education, which led me to pursue graduate studies in education. I went on to earn graduate and post-graduate degrees and teaching certifications including an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in curriculum and instruction.
With a diverse background in education and psychological-social services, I have worked with children of all ages in public and private schools, residential facilities, and in homes. My experience spans gifted learners, children with disabilities, and those facing emotional challenges, always with the goal of creating meaningful educational experiences.
Most recently, I have served on children’s committees for various organizations and on the boards of educational cooperatives.
Unable to find the right fit for our family, I created a homeschooling program driven by community members. And so, Save the Magic Education Collective was born.
